Ham Radio Deluxe Software Hardware and Operating System Requirements

Supported Hardware & Operating System Requirements

Because Ham Radio Deluxe is developed in Microsoft Visual Studio, Ham Radio Deluxe must conform to Microsoft's operating system requirements for their supported operating systems to ensure that our software is supportable.

The recommended minimum system requirements for Ham Radio Deluxe are defined by Microsoft's minimum requirements for your operating system.

Simply put, Ham Radio Deluxe will run on any operating system supported by Microsoft.

Microsoft's supported operating systems requirements can be found here:

While these requirements tell you what Microsoft thinks is the minimum requirements for their Operating System, that doesn't give you enough room to run many programs - Ham Radio Deluxe or otherwise. We recommend adding 2GB of memory to what Microsoft recommends.

Be mindful of Microsoft's end-of-life dates for their operating systems. Specifically

Windows 10 - Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 Home and Pro on Oct 14, 2025. More informaiton regarding Microsoft's support timelines for Windows 10 can be found here - Microsoft Lifecycle for Windows 10 Home and Pro

Windows 11 - Microsoft's lifecycle on Windows 11 represents a significant change to their approach prior to Windows 10. Microsoft has stated that they will release a major version of Windows 11 each year. This is made of of a "feature release" in the first half of the year (referred to as xxH1 where xx is the year) and "maintenance release" in the second half of the year (similarly, xxH2). Essentially, the xxH2 version is the release that Microsoft intends to support for an extended period. The xxH2 release will be supported for 24 months (for Windows 11 Home or Pro) or 36 months (for Windows 11 Enterprise).

Stated another way, there are already versions of Windows 11 that are beyond Microsoft's support date. Windows 11 released prior to 21H2 began support on October 4, 2021 and will be out of support on October 10, 2023. So if your version was relased prior to October 4, 2021, it's already out of support (from a Microsoft perspective).
