Ham Radio Deluxe Software® Digital Modes for Amateur Radio Operators

Log Digital Mode QSOs Automatically into HRD Logbook

Digital Master (DM-780) is the all-purpose ham radio digital modes communications package integrated with the Ham Radio Deluxe® suite. It is soundcard-based digital mode software for HF amateur radio, supporting a wider range of modes than any other integrated logging and rig control package available for Windows.

Digital Master uses your computer's soundcard interface and radio connection to offer a wide range of communications options to the amateur radio operator. Setup is straightforward — connect your radio's audio output to your PC's soundcard input, configure PTT through a COM port, VOX, or via HRD Rig Control, and you're on the air. Digital Master works with popular audio and multi-mode interfaces including the Timewave Navigator, SignaLink USB, and West Mountain Radio RigBlaster.

Digital Master is capable of a wide range of digital modes, including CW, RTTY, SSTV, PSK31, MT-63, and many more. For the CW enthusiast, Digital Master interfaces with the popular K1EL WinKeyer. True frequency shift keying (FSK) and audio frequency shift keying (AFSK) are both available for RTTY operation, giving you flexibility to match your station's capabilities.

The SuperSweeper feature lets you monitor up to 40 simultaneous signals across the passband at once in CW, RTTY, or PSK — a powerful tool for DX hunting and contest operating where activity is dense. Once a QSO is complete, Digital Master interfaces directly with HRD Logbook to record the contact automatically, with no manual data entry required.

Key Features

  • Wide variety of soundcard data communications modes (CW, RTTY, QPSK, Contestia, Domino, Hell, MFSK, Olivia, Thor, Throb, and more)
  • Waterfall or Spectrum Display for visual signal identification
  • SuperSweeper Mode — up to 40 active signals displayed simultaneously
    • Continuously sweeps passband via soundcard
    • Decodes CW, RTTY, and BPSK
  • Adjustable waterfall data and display settings
  • PTT control via COM port, VOX, TNC, or HRD Rig Control
  • Direct integration with HRD Logbook for automatic QSO logging
  • Direct integration with HRD Rig Control for frequency and mode data
  • Macro support for contest exchanges and standard callup messages
  • Integrated with PSK Reporter for real-time propagation spotting

CW Decoding and Morse Code Translator Software

For CW operators, DM-780 functions as a full-featured Morse code decoder and translator. The soundcard-based CW decoder listens to incoming signals and translates Morse code to text in real time — useful for copying weak or fast CW signals, checking your own sending accuracy, or simply reading a busy CW pile-up without having to copy every character by ear.

DM-780's CW capabilities include both receive decoding and transmit:

  • CW receive decoding — incoming Morse code is decoded from the audio signal and displayed as text in real time. The decoder handles a wide range of speeds and adapts to the incoming signal automatically.
  • CW transmit via WinKeyer — DM-780 interfaces directly with the K1EL WinKeyer, the most widely used hardware keyer in amateur radio. Type your message and WinKeyer sends it in perfect Morse code at your chosen speed.
  • Keyboard CW — send Morse code directly from your keyboard without a hardware keyer, using your soundcard interface for PTT control.
  • SuperSweeper CW mode — monitor and decode up to 40 simultaneous CW signals across the passband at once. Invaluable during CW contests or when hunting DX on a busy band.
  • Automatic logging — once a CW QSO is complete, DM-780 passes the contact details directly to HRD Logbook for automatic recording. No manual log entry needed.

Unlike standalone Morse code translator software that operates in isolation, DM-780's CW decoder is fully integrated with HRD Rig Control — meaning your radio's frequency and mode are always captured alongside the decoded text, and contacts log automatically. For operators who work CW alongside digital modes like FT8 and PSK31, having everything in one platform eliminates the need to switch between separate programs.

To set up CW decoding and WinKeyer integration in DM-780, see the Ham Radio Deluxe online manual.

Why Use DM-780 Instead of a Standalone Digital Mode Program?

The primary advantage of Digital Master over standalone programs like FLdigi is its native integration with the rest of the Ham Radio Deluxe suite. When you complete a QSO in DM-780, the contact flows directly into HRD Logbook — frequency, mode, signal report, and callsign — without any manual ADIF export or import steps. HRD Rig Control provides the frequency and mode data automatically, so your log entries are always accurate.

For RTTY contesters in particular, the combination of DM-780's FSK capability, SuperSweeper for monitoring the pileup, and HRD Logbook's award tracking makes for a highly efficient operating workflow. PSK31 operators benefit from the same seamless logging integration, with PSK Reporter connectivity providing real-time feedback on where your signal is being heard around the world.

Note: For FT8 and FT4 operation, we recommend using WSJT-X connected to Ham Radio Deluxe via the QSO Forwarding interface. See our FT8 integration guide for full setup instructions.
